This has been an exciting month at Brighton Health Plan Solutions.
- We won the competitive RFP and exciting endorsement from the Health Transformation Alliance (HTA), for the New York tri-state area. The HTA is a cooperative of 40+ major corporations – including names we all know such as American Express, FedEx, IBM, Verizon, and Macy’s – that got together to find innovative ways to provide high-value and high-quality healthcare benefits that will result in healthier outcomes and lower costs.

Like many employers, HTA employers have known for a long time that healthcare in America is broken. It’s too expensive, wasteful, and complicated, and isn’t creating a healthier population.
The HTA is very selective about healthcare solutions it recommends to its member companies – so getting HTA support is a big deal. That’s why I’m absolutely thrilled that the HTA has endorsed a joint-solution of Create® health plans offered alongside a large national health plan. This first-of-its-kind collaboration gives HTA member/owner companies access to Create, a marketplace that enables employees and their families to shop during enrollment for an integrated health system for local healthcare services.
Create isn’t anything like traditional healthcare benefits. It’s a health plan where employees select a single, high-performing health system of hospitals and doctors from which they receive all their care during the plan year. Employees, in essence, become members of a “club” and enjoy closer relationships with doctors in the health system, as well as better-coordinated care and reduced waste through shared medical records. Since employees commit to a single health system for all of their care, the health system can reduce costs.
With Create, the structural problems in healthcare – lack of enduring, two-way doctor-patient relationships, no market forces that continuously drive cost down and quality up, and no mechanism to help providers with the highest clinical and economic value win – finally get fixed.
For the first time in our industry, I can argue there is full alignment of the interests of all healthcare stakeholders – providers, patients and families, plan sponsors, and health plans. And that’s big for America.
